Designing large-scale client events to showcase AI technologies to our clients.
I am deputy to my team of creatives leading design strategy, user research, AI technology selection, post-event data collection and analysis.
Outcomes: 400+ attendees across two events; 100+ requests for follow-ups from clients who want to explore the showcased technologies further.
💡They say necessity breeds innovation...
It all started with a simple question: How do we know we are picking the right technologies to showcase to customers at AI Demo Days? At the time, there was no process to collect customer needs and pain points, and no central repository of technology offerings to compare them against.
I worked with a developer to lead the creation of a homegrown AI tool that streamlines the process of synthesizing client needs and recommending technologies that could meet those needs using semantic similarity. I single-handedly built the repository of technology offerings that the tool uses.
Outcomes: significant reduction in time needed for technology selection – from a full work week to less than an hour – 97.5% improvement! Popularity for using the tool has grown beyond my team and is being used across the company, we are currently working to make it a formal service offering.
I led the effort to build a dashboard (on MS Power Platform) that standardized the end-to-end process of deploying our proprietary innovation culture survey. This included analyzing the results, creating meaningful insights and data visuals, and implementing the capability to track innovation goals via metrics and OKRs.
I was the lead design strategist on the team for curating a curriculum to increase the digital literacy of Air Force leaders, resulting in a satisfaction rating of over 95% from participants. The training was followed by an innovation sprint with clients to help them craft their own digital transformation plan. The training and sprint activities are both scalable capabilities that have already been highly requested by additional clients.
The goal of this initiative was to create a streamlined process for the Space Exploration Sector at APL that utilized design thinking techniques to help scientists think creatively in creating potential space mission concepts.
My teammate and I designed a multi-day workshop to facilitate a group of APL scientists, engineers, physicists, and chemists through a series of design thinking activities for the purpose of ideating viable space mission concepts.
The workshop was focused around the big science question of examining Lunar Volcanism (yes, there are volcanoes on the moon and they can help us learn more about planet formation).
So, we did the workshop and really cool space mission ideas came out of it (which I cannot disclose here).
We also created a design thinking guide that included activity templates. This created a repeatable process to help the Lunar scientists create future mission concepts using design thinking.

In collaboration with the Space Exploration Sector at APL, my teammate and I were tasked with extensive user research within the organization to identify the unmet needs and pain points of the workforce engaged in the spacecraft manufacturing process.
We conducted ~50 interviews and observation studies with space physicists, scientists, and engineers from across the process: project management, design of the spacecraft instruments, manufacturing of the parts, and final deployment into space.
We developed a digital process map that visualized the entire spacecraft manufacturing process for the organization. We also identified several inefficiencies in the process that caused delays in deployment, miscommunication, unnecessary redundancies, and missing stock.
These insights helped to inform the RFP (request for product) developed to acquire new product and process management software to improve the overall workflow and user experience.
